Striker problem is one that Bayview boss welcomes

-

East Fife manager Darren Young has a pleasant problem to solve ahead of facing visitors Airdrie as he has four forwards that all caused Championship side Partick Thistle problems last weekend to choose from.

The Locality Hub Bayview Stadium team came from behind to defeat the visiting Jags 2-1 and their strikers Anton Dowds, Jonathan Court, Rory Currie and Kevin Smith all put in performances worthy of a securing a starting place against the Diamonds this afternoon.

Young said: “We started with Anton and Jonathan and they put a lot of work in.

“We fell behind to a goal where their player reacted quicker than ours, but our front two were keeping Thistle busy and we were never out of the game.

“Rory and Kevin came on and a goal from Rory won the tie.

“It was terrific that he got his first goal for the club but the way he linked up with Kevin was very impressive.

“Overall, we created twice as many chances as Thistle and I have difficult decisions to make for this game.”

Young reckons that East Fife are now seeing the benefit of their injury list clearing up as he said: “We have competition for places all over the park.

“Everyone knows that they have to play to a high standard to keep their jersey and it is no surprise that our performance levels have gone up as a result.

“We won well at Montrose and have knocked a full-time side out of a cup.

“It is now all about delivering these performances consistently and getting good results consistently and moving up the table.

“Airdrie played a very different game last weekend when they faced English side Sutton United. By all accounts they were unlucky to lose.”

Ross Dunlop is available again after missing out last Saturday, with Scott Linton the only injury doubt.
