Holidaying couple’s home raided

-

A teenager broke into a house in Fife and stole a TV before driving off with it in the home owner’s car.

Cameron Corbett, 19, currently detained at Polmont young offenders’ institution, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He admitted that on May 25 he and others broke into a house in Blairadam Crescent, Kelty, stole a TV, jewellery and two car keys then took a car from the same address.

Depute fiscal Sarah Lumsden said the couple who live at the house were on holiday abroad on the night of the break-in.

A neighbour heard two loud thuds at around 2.10am and when he looked out of his window he saw someone with a torch in the garden of the victims’ home, with two others standing nearby.

A glass patio door had been smashed.

Before police arrived, the thieves were seen carrying a TV out of the house, after they had searched through it by torchlight.

Two vehicles were then heard speeding out of the street.

The couple’s Audi A3 was later spotted in a car park at South Queensferry with the TV still in the back. A man who had earlier seen a Facebook post about the theft contacted the police. During forensic testing, Corbett’s DNA was found on the steering wheel.

Sheriff Charles MacNair called for reports with Corbett remanded in custody until sentencing on October 9.
