Wanderers’ win puts team in cup’s last 16

Dundee Wanderers are through to the last 16 of the Scottish Cup with a 7-1 win over third division Strathclyd­e University.

Gregor Pearson was the main striker with a hat-trick while Elliot Sandison, Cammy Bell, Paul Dailly and Callum Ross each contribute­d one goal.

Menzieshil­l put 11 past Stirling University, with Albert Rowling scoring four goals.

Perthshire and St Andrews University met for the second time in two days. The students edged the league points by the odd goal in five but were outplayed on Sunday.

Calum White was Perthshire’s star striker with six goals. Simon Thomson, Stephen Dick, Ross Fleming and Mike Robertson also contribute­d to a 10-3 victory.

A goal by Tom Cahalin proved consolatio­n for Perthshire II after conceding five to Grange II in the District Cup.

Wanderers III were involved in a no-scoring draw with Highland III in the Reserve Cup, but exited the competitio­n 4-3 on penalties.

Robbie Preece was on target for Perthshire III against Hillhead III but again the Perth side came up short, losing 3-1.

Menzieshil­l III conceded eight goals without reply against Edinburgh University III while Aberdeen Grammar were hit for nine by Dundee Wanderers III.

The last 16 of all three cups is on Sunday November 4.
