A Dundee couple are to star on TV after being jetted to Las Vegas for their dream wedding.

Childhood sweethearts Amy, 24, and Jack Fyffe, 25, applied to appear on Say Yes To The Dress, not truly expecting to be picked for the reality TV show.

But they were “absolutely shocked” when they found out they would be flown to America and have their wedding planned for them, including the dress being hand-picked by fashion designer David Emmanuel who famously designed Princess Diana’s wedding dress in 1981.

The lovebirds met at Harris Academy when they were teenagers and have been together for seven years. They got engaged last year in the Highlands village of Achiltibuie and originally planned to tie the knot in 2020.

Amy said: “We made the application but didn’t really expect much. It’s one of those things you think happens to someone else so we were absolutely shocked when we found out we got it.

“When we started planning our wedding, I thought something in Scotland would be a bit too traditional. We wanted something different. We wanted to have a laugh so came upon the idea of a Little White Chapel wedding in Las Vegas with an Elvis impersonator.

“It’s a little cheesy but it was great fun. It really was a dream wedding.

“Because it was so last minute, not all of our friends and family could get time off work but we were lucky to have some family and best friends with us. I’m a total control freak so it was difficult to give that up and have someone else organise the wedding but, in the end, it was cathartic and it really was the dream wedding.”

The couple stayed in the iconic Bellagio Hotel and Casino and were upgraded to the penthouse suite upon their arrival.

As per the show’s format, they had to complete a task in the build-up to their big day: an indoor skydive.

Amy was in a Fife primary school as part of a teaching placement when she got an email confirming they would be going to the States.

“When I got the message saying we’d been selected I was running down the corridor screaming with excitement.

“We flew back late on the Sunday night and I had to get up for the last day of my placement. I was suffering from jet lag so it was difficult to get up but they were all really nice to me and I passed.”

The couple are planning on having people at their house to watch the show together, with Amy joking that she might wear her wedding dress for the party.

Amy and Jack’s episode of Say Yes To The Dress will air on TLC tonight at 8pm.
