Laszlo appeals for Premiership party in the V&A

CLUBS: United boss hopes for double celebration next May

- IAN ROACHE

Dundee United and Dundee will hold a Premiership party in the V&A at the end of the season if Tannadice manager Csaba Laszlo gets his way.

While the city’s new world-class museum has been lauded and applauded across Scotland and the wider world since its grand opening last weekend, the two senior football clubs have been making the wrong sort of headlines.

Laszlo’s United side have only drawn their last two games against Alloa and Morton to sit a disappointing fifth in the Championship, while the Dark Blues are rock bottom of the top flight without a single point to their name.

Defeat tomorrow away to basement boys Falkirk will put Laszlo, who was the target of negative chanting from some fans last weekend, in serious trouble.

His Dens counterpart Neil McCann, meanwhile, will find himself in real bother should his players get beaten at home by Hibs to make it seven losses in a row.

It’s as if there is a party going on in the city and two of its most important institutions – the football teams – haven’t been invited.

Laszlo hopes that will change and that there can be a double celebration at the V&A come next May.

The United boss said: “With not just Dundee United but also Dundee we are a football town.

“You have two teams with very passionate fans.

“Over the last few seasons, we must be honest and say that both teams have been struggling.

“One team wants to go back up and one wants to stay in the Premiership.

“What I wish from my heart is that Dundee United will be promoted back up at the end of this season and Dundee keep their position in the top league.

“Maybe after that we can all be happy and we can go, the two teams together, to see the museum.

“Yes, we will be all be happy and go to see the exhibitions together.

“The fans will also be happy and we will have derbies in the Scottish Premiership not the Championship.”
