Some grand champions in summer shows
With the shows all done and dusted for another year, it’s time to take a look back at the highlights of Courier Country’s agricultural show season. As usual there were some proud moments and none more so than for the winners of the prestigious accolade of champion of champions at some of our top events.
At the Fife Show, the sunny weather brought hundred of onlookers to the ring to see who would win out as champion of champions. The prize eventually went to Jim and Isobel Wilson’s six-year-old Holstein, Lieu Thomain Heliot, a cow which was imported from France last year.
Over in West Fife, another father and daughter team brought home the rosettes, as Thomas and Gillian Clark won Clydesdale and champion of champions with the handsome Muirton Margo.
At the Angus Show, the proud champion of champions was 15-month-old Highland Pony, Islay Malt of Coynach, owned by Lynn McDonald, Mains of Coynach, Tarland. The Millennium trophy winner was shown at the event by Lynn’s father, Bill Chapman.
Over in Kirriemuir, Wilson Peters’ 13-month-old Doune and Dunblane champion Adora Derriere was judged interbreed cattle champion, a win for commercial breeding, while three Texel cross gimmers won the interbreed sheep championship, gaining the votes of seven judges. The gimmers, bred and shown by Andrew Beattie of Tulliwhanland Farm, Aberlemno, were being shown for the first time.
At the Kinross Show, it was David McKerrow with his fittingly named champion sheep interbeed, Champion Texil who won Overall Champion of Show.
