Fifers urged to ensure they can vote in upcoming elections

-

Fifers are being urged to make sure they do not risk losing their vote because they have not returned their annual canvass form.

Forms were sent to every household in July with reminders sent out in August to those who had not responded.

Canvassers will now be sent to properties who have still not replied.

The form aims to ensure the electoral register is up to date and identify anyone who needs to register to vote individually.

Fife’s electoral registration officer Linda Bissett said: “Anyone who wants to vote must be registered so if you haven’t already, simply check the form and reply as soon as possible.

“It’s also important to include 14 and 15-year-olds on the form as 16-year-olds are able to vote in local government and Scottish Parliament elections.

“This is so they are on the register when they become eligible to vote.

“For households who have replied, we’ve also been sending out invitations to individuals who aren’t currently registered to vote so that they can do so.

“It’s important that you reply if you receive this invitation.”

She added: “To make sure as many people as possible can have their say in any upcoming elections, electoral registration canvassers will also be out and about across Fife in the next few weeks.

“If they visit you, I would encourage you to take the time and complete the form with them if you haven’t already so that you don’t lose your vote.”

Registering to vote is quick and easy. Anyone who is not currently registered can find out how to do so at www.fifedirect.org.uk/ electoralregister
