Stories, songs and shinty: public urged to take part in Gaelic Week

Fife Council is encouragin­g everyone to give Gaelic a go during Gaelic Week.

The event, Seachdain na Gaidhlig, runs from tomorrow until the following Friday October 12.

Activities in Fife are mainly free to attend and have been designed for everyone from complete beginners in the language to fluent speakers.

Gaelic developmen­t officer Kirsty Strachan said: “We want to encourage as many people as possible to take part in this week of fun activities around Fife to experience, use and improve your Gaelic. Learning a new language can be great fun for all ages.”

There will be a pop-up Gaelic cafe for adults at Silverburn Park in Leven from 7pm tomorrow. Tickets are £8 from the park or the Lomond Centre in Glenrothes.

As part of the Fun Palaces event at Rothes Halls in Glenrothes, a taster session and sing-along will be held from 1pm to 3pm tomorrow.

Next Tuesday, from 10am to 2pm, people will be encouraged to try shinty with Aberdour Shinty Club.

A Gaelic singing workshop with Norrie MacIver, lead singer with Skippinish, will be held at Dunfermlin­e City Chambers from 3pm to 5pm on Wednesday.

Stories at Silverburn offers Scottish tales woven with Gaelic for all ages. The event takes place at Silverburn Park from 11am to 1pm on Thursday.

Srupag will involve coffee, cake and craic at the Lomond Centre from 11.30am to 12.30pm on Friday, followed by a learners’ lunch at 12.30pm.
