Bluebells see off Glens to maintain 100% record

McComiskie and Deasley on the mark in hard-fought win

- MARK JOHNSON

Leaders Lochee United were made to work hard by Glenrothes at Warout Stadium but managed to eke out another win that keeps their 100% Super League record going.

Scott McComiskie put United in front on 32 minutes but the second by Bryan Deasley didn’t come until the 78th minute.

John Martin pulled one back to make it a nervy last seven minutes but the visitors managed the game to make sure the points headed back north.

It looked like Broughty Athletic were going to slip up at Treaton Park against Kennoway Star Hearts but a late goal deprived the new management team of Kevin Byers and Chris Templeman a firstgame point The goal came from Ross McCord with 10 minutes to go but it was a much improved performance from the Fife side.

Whitburn made it five League games without defeat and four wins on the bounce as a stoppage time winner saw them beat Tayport 3-2 after Charlie King’s side had levelled the scores in the last minute and looked like pinching a point.

Greg Nicol put Whitburn in front on 34 minutes but Tayport were level within 60 seconds through Dayle Robertson.

Martin Russell restored the home side’s lead with 20 minutes to go but a Jamie Gill header with two minutes left looked to have pinched a point.

However, deeper in stoppage time Darren Liddell popped up to score a winner for the Lothian outfit.

Jordan Garden went from villain to hero for Downfield as they drew 2-2 at home to Kirrie Thistle.

Jordan Hornby put the Spiders in front but Dale Reid equalised for the visitors.

Garden then put the ball into his own net to put Kirrie in front before Garden earned a point for his side with the equaliser.

Carnoustie Panmure got off to the perfect start at Strathmore Park when Steven McPhee put his side in front after five minutes but a defensive lapse five minutes before the break saw Andrew Walls level for West End and a draw at half-time was probably fair.

Carnoustie had the better of the chances in the second half with Gary Thain in the West End goal the busier of the two keepers.

Neither side could find a winner, however, and the game ended in controversy when Barrie Gourlay was sent off for the Gowfers for a very late challenge on Walls before Robbie George was sent off in a melee that resulted from other players needlessly getting involved.
