New three-year deal for promising teen keeper

-

Tommy Wright has tied up teenage keeper Ross Sinclair on a new threeyear deal.

The St Johnstone manager rates the Scotland Under-18 international the best young goalie in the country.

The contract through to 2021 will fend off interest from clubs on both sides of the border.

Earlier this year Perth-born Sinclair, 17, trained with Liverpool and pulled off a penalty save in a 4-3 win over Panjab FC.

He is farmed out to Scottish Lowland League outfit BSC Glasgow at the moment.

“Ross is someone all the staff think very highly of,” said Wright, a former Northern Ireland international keeper and coach.

“He’s worked his way into the Scotland U18 squad.

“We think he has a bright future in the game and it is great to get him tied down on a longer contract.

“If he keeps his feet on the ground – and he is very much the sort of lad who will do that – then he has a bright career ahead of him.

“Playing regularly with BSC is great experience for him and will aid his development.

“He’s technically very good and comfortable with the ball at his feet. He’s still only 17 so will continue to develop physically.”

Sinclair, who was spotted playing for local side Scone Thistle, is with the national U18 squad for games with Uzbekistan and France.
