Events held to promote reading

-

Book Week Scotland events in Fife include talks by cycling legend Graeme Obree, wildlife cameraman Gordon Buchanan and author Sara Sheridan.

Events are being held across the region for the national event from November 19-25.

Obree, nicknamed the Flying Scotsman, will tell an audience in the Lochgelly Centre about his journey to the top from club cyclist.

Buchanan’s travels around the planet will inspire tales of the natural world as he talks at the Rothes Halls about his often dangerous career shooting documentaries for the BBC.

An afternoon of conversation and cake in the Kirkcaldy Galleries will be led by Sheridan, author of the Mirabelle Bevan mysteries.

Other events include Banned Books and Beer in Cupar Library, a workshop with poet Hugh McMillan in St Andrews Library, and a pop-up pub quiz in Rosyth Library.

Scottish Book Trust chief executive officer Marc Lambert said: “We’re delighted to present another packed programme for Book Week Scotland, our national celebration of reading and writing.”

Culture Secretary Fiona Hyslop said: “For the seventh consecutive year, the Scottish Government is proud to support this incredible event, which stems from the Scottish Government’s commitment to literature” and “ensuring more people can access and enjoy cultural activity more often”.
