Starlight should grab limelight

TIPS: Richard Fahey’s filly looks well placed to round off season at Musselburgh

- THE FERRET

The curtain comes down on this year’s Scottish flat racing campaign with a bumper eight-race card at Musselburgh.

The feature race, the Racegoers Club 50th Anniversary Handicap, can go the way of Richard Fahey’s STARLIGHT ROMANCE.

The four-year-old filly has held her form remarkably consistently all season, considering she began her campaign in May.

Second on her most recent outing at Haydock on soft ground, she is rated as high as she ever has been, but deserves to be.

Paul Midgley’s TARBOOSH had his winning run halted last time out but he showed he was still in great heart and looks the one to beat in the Breeders Backing Racing EBF Flying Scotsman Conditions Stakes.

There are four course and distance winners in the concluding amateur riders’ handicap but Alan Berry’s topweight Economic Crisis, a four-timer scorer at the East Lothian venue.

APLOMB is of interest for the William Haggas yard in the British EBF Novice Stakes at Yarmouth.

He had the misfortune of making his debut in what could prove a red-hot Newbury maiden won by Breath Caught, finishing a respectable fifth.

The second has come out and won since to frank the form and Aplomb might not need to improve much to win.
