Access restricted at waterfront

-

Access to a section of Burntisland’s waterfront is to be limited so ships can be unloaded.

Forth Ports said the move was necessary to ensure the health and safety of the public.

The port is used by Scott Timber, which receives shipments every six weeks.

Each ship unloads its cargo over a three-day period. While work is going on, members of the public will not be able to access the site between the eastern swimming pool side and the west side of the harbour.

Vehicles will still be able to head to and from Burntisland Sailing Club but there will be tight restrictions on movement.

The next ship is due to arrive this week. The restrictions will be in place from 7am to 7pm when timber unloading is taking place.

Forth Ports chief operating officer Stuart Wallace said: “The safety of the public and our staff is of paramount importance to us across the business and we regularly undertake assessments to ensure that we go about our operations in the safest possible way.

“We have taken the decision to restrict public access along the harbour front while the ships are unloading their cargo.

“This will only be for a short period of time every six weeks between the hours of 7am and 7pm for a few days each time.

“We hope that the public will understand and be patient with us while we carry out the unloading.”
