The Cry (BBC1, 9pm-10pm)

The conversion of Helen Fitzgerald’s novel comes to a close this week, and once more it features a powerhouse performanc­e from Jenna Coleman. In the aftermath of the tragic events, Joanna wakes in a hospital bed, and via flashbacks to Australia, pieces of the puzzle slot into place. Joanna and Alistair try to rebuild their lives. However, they cannot avoid drifting further apart. Then an unexpected delivery turns up, and suddenly a wave of longburied memories comes flooding back for Joanna. Everything they thought they knew is upended by the revelation.

Doctor Who (BBC1, 6.55pm-7.45pm)

The Doctor takes her companions on their first journey back in time - to the dangerous, racially segregated world of Alabama in the 1950s. They encounter one of the era’s heroes, black civil rights campaigner Rosa Parks, but also discover a plot to change the course of history. Vinette Robinson guest stars.

Royal Opera House: Lessons in Love and Violence (BBC4, 9pm-10.35pm)

A performanc­e of George Benjamin’s new opera about Edward II from the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. The king’s relationsh­ip with his most trusted advisor provokes unrest in the court and the country as a whole. Introduced by Clemency Burton-Hill.

NFL Live (BBC2, 2pm-5.45pm)

Los Angeles Chargers v Tennessee Titans (Kick-off 2.30pm). Nat Coombs presents coverage of the match between the respective AFC West and AFC South sides at Wembley Stadium. The Chargers have appeared in London once before, losing 37-32 to New Orleans Saints back in 2008.

Casper (ITV2, 4.10pm-6.10pm)

A paranormal expert moves into a haunted house where his daughter befriends the amiable ghost of a young boy - but things start to go awry when three smelly spooks and two dastardly crooks try to chase the new residents away. Family comedy, starring Christina Ricci, Bill Pullman and Eric Idle.
