Teenager dies in hospital after crash on busy Perthshire road
COLLISION: Hamish Farquharson, 19, of Ballater, said to have been hugely popular
A teenager has died in hospital after a crash on one of Perthshire’s busiest roads.
Hamish Farquharson, from Ballater, was critically injured in the two-car collision on the A93, a mile north of Blairgowrie.
The police have appealed for witnesses to the crash, which happened just after 8pm on Thursday.
The Mini Mr Farquharson was driving was involved in a collision with a Mercedes, police said.
The 44-year-old male driver of the second vehicle escaped with minor injuries, while his 48-year-old female passenger was seriously hurt.
The police confirmed that 19-year-old Mr Farquharson died in hospital on Saturday.
A spokesman said: “Our thoughts are with his family and friends, and they have asked that their privacy be respected at this difficult time.”
The road was closed for several hours to allow for investigations, while traffic was redirected along surrounding roads. A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal in due course.
Hamish, who studied at Napier University in Edinburgh, was a keen sports fan, skier and snowboarder. He was a regular visitor to Glenshee Ski Centre.
Last year he spent five weeks in Borneo working with sustainable development charity Raleigh International.
Friends, who described Hamish as hugely popular, said they were planning a memorial event to celebrate his life.
Earlier this summer a German woman died in an accident on the same A93 stretch, five miles south of Braemar. The 65-year-old was a passenger on a grey BMW motorcycle, which was involved in a collision with a white Triumph bike.
Any witnesses to Thursday’s accident are urged to contact investigators on 101, quoting reference number 3716 of October 25.
