Wanderers are on cloud nine as another win keeps them top

-

Dundee Wanderers further consolidated their position at the top of the second division with their ninth straight victory.

This time it was St Andrews University who were on the receiving end but it was not until the second half that Wanderers clinched their 4-1 victory.

Bobby Ralph had given Wanderers the lead only for St Andrews to equalise.

Elliot Sandison restored Wanderers’ lead before half-time but victory was still not assured.

But a goal apiece from a Sean Dowie penalty stroke and a fourth by Lewis Pyke clinched the points.

Carnegie are clear in second place and clearly have not given up on their hopes of outright promotion after their 8-1 defeat of Aberdeen Grammar, but more realistically the Dunfermline side will have to see off any challenge from Inverleith for second place and a promotion play-off.

Perthshire have yet to find the best blend this season and have been on the wrong side of several close defeats.

Saturday was no exception, a 5-3 loss to Inverleith, who are third in the division, left Perthshire second from the foot of the division.

Grove Menzieshill let a winning position slip at home to Western Wildcats and are now five points adrift of first division leaders Grange.

It all looked rosy as Cameron Golden gave Menzieshill the lead at DISC but it was Western who were the more resilient in the latter stages and responded well to win 2-1.
