Seventh heaven for Edinburgh as university team destroys GHK

Edinburgh University smashed seven unanswered goals past luckless GHK to keep a two-point lead over rivals Dundee Wanderers and Western Wildcats.

Clydesdale Western hover just one point further adrift as the national league title race approaches the mid-point.

Wanderers hit the front early to rack up Saturday’s highest goal count with Heather Elder claiming a hat-trick and Vikki Bunce, Emily Dark and Charlotte Watson firing in doubles for an emphatic 9-1 victory over Grange.

At DISC, Grove Menzieshil­l dropped to sixth in the table following their 3-1 loss to Wildcats.

St Andrews University drop to third in Division 2 having lost 2-1 against promotion rivals Merlins Gordonians, however Dundee University picked up a point when they split four goals with Fjordhus Reivers.

Grove’s second string came away with a 1-0 win over Haddington to sit comfortabl­y mid-table in Championsh­ip 1 and Kinross boosted their Championsh­ip 2 campaign with Vicky Carver (3) and Katie Clayton finding the target for a 4-1 win over Kelburne II.

Madras returned to winning ways with a hard-fought win over Midland title rivals Wanderers II. Katrina MacFarlane opened the home account with three rapidfire strikes from Jade Milne nailing the result before an absolute peach of a goal from the visitors made it 4-2.

Rebekah Rose netted the match-winner for Blairgowri­e following a close contest with Grove IIIs.

In Division 2 the mother and daughter combinatio­n of Elaine and Caoimhe Duncan helped Monarchs post a 4-0 win over Dundee University III with Emma Ewen and Nicola Tisdall also making it on to the scoresheet.
