Lack of goals not just fault of forwards, says Vincent
Midfielder desperate to help end drought against Caley Thistle
James Vincent insists the responsibility for Dunfermline’s lack of goals does not just lie with the forwards.
The Pars midfielder is desperate to help out on that score as they prepare to head up to the Highlands to play Inverness Caley Thistle tonight.
They drew another blank on Saturday as they lost 2-0 to Dundee United at East End Park.
Indeed, only the Championship’s bottom two clubs – Alloa and Falkirk – have scored fewer goals than Dunfermline’s nine in the division.
Vincent himself has only found the target once this season, against Stirling Albion in a Betfred Cup group match back on July 28.
So he wants to contribute and he knows it is not only down to the frontmen to sort it out.
Vincent said: “We just haven’t been scoring enough goals and we need to improve – no doubt.
“We have been creating chances but just haven’t put them away.
“The onus to do that should not just be on the strikers but the rest of the team as well – I would certainly include myself in that.
“I need to chip in from midfield and we definitely need to be scoring more frequently. We all need to have input and hopefully the goals will start coming.
“The positive thing is that we have been creating things so we maybe need that little bit of luck and it turns for us.
“My last goal was in the Betfred Cup so I would like a few more in order to help the team.
“I have my defensive duties but the gaffer still allows me to push up the park.
“I am looking to get in position in and around the box and look for cutbacks and the like. That is my area so hopefully I will get more chances.”
Under normal circumstances, players would prefer to be on home territory as they try to recover from what was a disappointing display and result at the weekend.
However, the Pars are struggling in front of their own fans and a trip away from it all might just be what they need.
Vincent, a former ICT player, said: “The travel is not an issue for me as, having been up in Inverness, I know what it’s all about.
“You do have an early start in the morning but it’s not a problem.
“When you head up to the Highlands you always prepare the right way for the game and we’ll do that again.
“It is always a good place to go and play football and the pitch is always good up there.
“Our focus is all on getting the right result so we can start moving up the table.
“Inverness are a good outfit with a strong defence and John Robertson has got them well organised.
“They can also hit you on the break as we discovered when we last played them.
“That is something we will be looking to put right this time.”
