Boss Weir wants Loons’ winning run to continue against Airdrie

-

Forfar boss Jim Weir has called on his Loons side to build on last Saturday’s victory over Raith Rovers.

On-loan midfielder Mark Hill hit the winner in a five-goal Station Park thriller as the Angus side became the first team this season to beat the Kirkcaldy club in the league.

The three points lifted Forfar into the play-off positions while Rovers fell seven points behind league leaders Arbroath.

Weir was delighted with the Loons’ performance, saying: “One thing we know is that we can play football and we try to do that in the right manner.

“We face a tough match at Airdrie this week but we can look forward to a good week’s training.

“I thought we started the game against Raith really well, but, to be honest, I’d had positive vibes all week after our win against Stenhousemuir last week.

“I’d stressed to the players we were facing a right good team and we would need to be on top of our game.

“We got a great goal and a wee lift from that but then I was disappointed with the two goals we lost and the manner we sat off the game for a spell.

“I felt we went into a bit of a shell until the end of the half.

“But I had a wee go at one or two for the same things that I think are letting us down in games, things I think we can do better.

“John Baird made a great point at half-time when he said let’s be brave and pass the ball and take possession rather than just lumping the ball upfront.

“We scored two great goals in the second half and for the last half hour I thought the supporters got right behind the team.

“Suddenly there was a bit of self-belief and I really felt we would go on and win the game.”

The victory was Forfar’s third in four home clashes against the Stark’s Park side stretching back to April 2007.

The Loons picked up four points from six in their two Station Park encounters last season and beat them in the IrnBru Cup in September 2016.
