A free will if you will

-

Game of Thrones star Iain Glen has urged the British public to “own up to the inevitable” and make a will. The multi-award-winning Scottish actor spoke out following the announcement that he is set to become patron of Will Aid.

The charity will-writing scheme is designed to reinforce the need for everyone to have a professionally drawn-up will, while raising vital funds for nine causes.

Iain said: “Cheating death is only an option in fiction. Making a will is really about owning up to the inevitable. We organise ourselves in life and so we should in death by clarifying your final wishes. I urge people to make an appointment with their local solicitor as soon as they possibly can.”

The actor also said he was delighted to be championing Will Aid in its 30th anniversary year. Will Aid Month, which takes place across the country throughout November.

Solicitors who take part provide the will writing service for local people and waive their usual fee, instead you are invited to make a voluntary donation to Will Aid which is then split between nine of the UK’s best-loved charities. The service is always over-subscribed, so people who would like to make a will are urged to get in touch with their local participating solicitor as soon as possible to secure an appointment.

The suggested voluntary donation is £95 for a single and £150 for a pair of mirror wills. In 2017, Will Aid raised more than £1 million for the vital work of its charity partners – ActionAid, Age UK, British Red Cross, Christian Aid, NSPCC, Save the Children, Sightsavers, SCIAF in Scotland and Trocaire in Northern Ireland.
