On-loan Hendry ruled out of action for months

-

Raith Rovers have been dealt a major setback after on-loan Celtic youngster Regan Hendry was ruled out for up to four months with a cruciate knee ligament injury.

The 20-year-old rejoined Rovers for a second spell in the wake of manager John McGlynn’s appointment in September and has been a key performer since.

However, the youngster picked up an injury in last Saturday’s 3-2 defeat to Forfar and has been dealt the devastating news he will be sidelined until well into the new year.

With last season’s 23-goal top scorer, Lewis Vaughan, out of action with an ankle problem, McGlynn believes he is missing two of League One’s star performers.

McGlynn said: “Regan Hendry is out for three to four months. He’s done his posterior cruciate ligament. That’s another massive blow to us. He’s been our top player in the last few weeks since coming here.

“And we’re no further forward with Lewis Vaughan. So, it’s a matter of opinion, but you’ve got two of the best players in this league that are not available.

“They are guys who are really creative players with so much quality, and we don’t have them because they’re out. But we’re not a one-man team or a two-man team. We are a team who can still go on the park on Saturday and produce – we’ll need to.”

Raith host managerless Brechin City tomorrow seeking to bounce back from the defeat to Forfar that left them seven points adrift of league leaders Arbroath.

The Kirkcaldy outfit are undefeated at Stark’s Park in the league in a remarkable run stretching back to February last year but McGlynn has warned his side they must produce the same form on the road as on home soil if they want to win promotion. He added: “We’ve got the record intact and we want to maintain that.”
