Aguero milestone helps move City back on top

-

Sergio Aguero scored his 150th Premier League goal as champions Manchester City powered back to the top of the table by thrashing Southampton 6-1.

Raheem Sterling also struck twice while David Silva and Leroy Sane got on the scoresheet after an early Wesley Hoedt own goal in a one-sided contest at the Etihad Stadium.

A Danny Ings penalty gave Southampton their first goal in six games.

Alvaro Morata scored twice as Chelsea beat Crystal Palace 3-1 to give Maurizio Sarri a record-equalling start to Premier League management.

Morata’s first-half strike was cancelled out by Andros Townsend as Chelsea struggled to subdue their vibrant visitors, for whom Wilfried Zaha starred.

But Eden Hazard, back from a threegame absence with a back problem, provided the striker’s second with his first touch, sending over a free-kick which Morata diverted into the net.

The often derided Spain frontman now has five goals in his past six Chelsea games and Pedro added a third soon afterwards as the Blues moved second in the table, above Liverpool on goal difference.

Alexandre Lacazette superbly secured Arsenal a 1-1 draw against Liverpool in an absorbing encounter on Saturday after a James Milner strike.

In Saturday’s early kick-off, Marcus Rashford’s stoppage-time goal secured Manchester United a 2-1 comeback win at high-flying Bournemouth. Callum Wilson had given Eddie Howe’s side a deserved lead.

But a rejuvenated Anthony Martial’s fifth goal in as many games somewhat fortuitously pulled his side level before the break, which they emerged from as a vastly improved proposition.

The spoils looked set to be shared until Rashford struck late on, with the forward, who turned 21 this week, coming off the bench to seal a timely victory.

Leicester honoured the memory of Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha by making a winning return to action at Cardiff.

The Foxes owner died along with four others in a helicopter crash outside the King Power Stadium following last weekend’s match with West Ham.

On an emotional afternoon in south Wales, Demarai Gray dedicated his 55th-minute goal to Srivaddhanaprabha as Leicester won 1-0 at Cardiff.

Newcastle got their first league win of the season at the 11th attempt as Watford went down 1-0 at St James’ Park.

West Ham’s record signing Felipe Anderson began repaying his price tag by netting twice in a roller-coaster 4-2 win against Burnley.

Everton netted a fourth win in five Premier League matches by overcoming Brighton 3-1 at Goodison Park.

Saturday’s Premier League fixtures ended with Tottenham emerging 3-2 victors from a rip-roaring clash with Wolves, helped by Harry Kane’s eighth goal of the season.
