Co-workers at Dunfermline retail outlet pull together to help cancerstricken man go to New York with wife

Fife colleagues of a cancer-stricken groom braved the shave so he could jet off on the honeymoon of his dreams.

Sean Elliott is due to tie the knot with Amy Clelland.

But the couple, who are both 24, had to cancel their dream honeymoon in New York after Sean was told he would need chemotherapy for testicular cancer.

His diagnosis means he will have to pay more for insurance when he finally gets to travel.

Sean lost all his hair before his big day so, in a show of solidarity, 10 of his workmates at M&S in Dunfermline had their heads shaved to raise money.

The kind-hearted colleagues raised a total of £2,400.

“My diagnosis was a complete shock but the kindness and outstanding actions of my colleagues have been amazing,” said Sean.

“They’ve gone above and beyond to help us out and show their support and solidarity.”

Sean wants to raise awareness of testicular cancer, which the NHS describes as one of the most treatable forms of cancer.

He added: “Testicular cancer isn’t discussed enough, especially in younger men. I want to raise more awareness about it. The guys here at M&S are doing a great job of this by braving the shave.”

Sean and Amy, who is a postgraduate student, are getting married at The Vu in Bathgate.

However, they have not booked another honeymoon destination because Sean has been told he cannot fly for a year after treatment.

Diagnosed with cancer in May, Sean was told that it had spread to his lymph nodes in September and he would have to undergo chemotherapy.

Colleagues at M&S Dunfermline have already raised more than £1,500 through a JustGiving page set up in Sean’s name as well as activities including an in-store raffle, with staff members winning a signed Dunfermline Athletics football strip and football.

Joyce Kirk, store manager at M&S Dunfermline, said: “No one deserves to go off on their dream honeymoon more than Sean and Amy so we wanted to help in any way we could.

“I’m so proud of the team for coming together and taking on this challenge while also helping to raise awareness of testicular cancer.”
