Fife schools celebrate haul of awards from sportscotland
Schools across Fife have been given a national award for innovation and achievement in delivering sport.
Bosses at sportscotland have recognised a total of 35 schools in the region who have passed with flying colours.
Burntisland, Crossgates and North Queensferry primary schools were given the organisation’s gold standard, alongside St Patrick’s RC Primary and Queen Anne High.
The latest award means Fife now has seven gold rated schools in total, as well as 20 with a silver grading and eight bronze.
The chief executive of sportscotland, Stewart Harris, said staff and pupils from across Fife were putting sport and physical education right at the heart of their schools and local communities.
“They should be proud of this fantastic achievement,” he said.
“Along with our partners, sportscotland is committed to building a world-class sporting system for everyone, and a crucial part of that is putting young people at the centre of our efforts.
“Working with local authorities and governing bodies of sport, we are creating closer links between physical education, school sport and club sport, which benefits young people by providing more and better opportunities to take part in sport.
“It’s great to be able to recognise more schools than we ever have before, it shows that pupils, staff and parents across the country see the undoubted value in having sport as a crucial part of school life.”
Fay Sinclair, convener for the education and children’s services committee, said: “This is great news for Fife.”
