Are you ready for onset of winter?

As we head into the coldest months of the year, now is the ideal time to add some fresh touches to your home which won’t blow a huge hole in your budget

-

So the clocks have been turned back and it is time to adjust once more to the longer nights and cooler days. The good news is that this time of year is also the perfect chance to made a few changes to transform your home into a cosy haven for the winter months.

You don’t need to blow the budget on replacing large items or a total redecoration, unless you really want to – a few cleverly chosen accessories and fresh touches can transform your summery space into a warm and welcoming home in no time at all.

This season, the colour palate has gone all dark and moody, perfect for creating those reading nooks and hygge-hugging spaces that are still so much on the interiors trend radar. If you are up for investing in a new piece of furniture in the lead up to Christmas, make it a statement sofa in a deep hue of green, purple or blue. A luxurious fabric such as deep velvet or cord will add to the sense of opulence.

Whether you have taken the plunge with new pieces or not, the secret to a cosy scheme is to pile on the cushions and throws to instantly transform your living space.

Plump for textures such as velvet, faux fur, chunky-knit wool and corduroy for the most up to date look.

Don’t neglect your lighting schemes for these darker days, what worked well in the summer months may be too stark or not bright enough at this time of year. Illuminate dark corners with table or angular standard lamps and add ambiance with a few beautiful scented candles.

For the ultimate cosy corner, get that wood burner fired up, or even consider having one installed for the season ahead, if we have another visit from the Beast from the East you will be glad of the extra source of warmth and there is no welcome quite like a real fire to warm the soul on a chilly day.
