Reign face Storm in early start

-

Dunfermline Reign face an early start today as they put their unbeaten Scottish League record on the line away to Glasgow Storm at Kelvin College at 11am.

Captain Kieran Lynch had his 28th birthday yesterday but postponed any celebrations until tonight in order to focus on the task of defeating the improving west side.

“We expect nothing but a close game – they rebound well and on a smallish court we’ll struggle to use our style of play to our advantage,” said Lynch.

Storm have the ex-Glasgow Rocks point guard Nestor Lascunsion as their ball-handler but coach John Day believes the Spaniard will have his work cut out to cope with Reign’s own Craig Ferguson, his opposite number.

“He’ll struggle to cope with Craig,” he said.

“We’re back at full strength,” added Day, which means former Tayside Musketeer Nicky Sim returns after missing the cup-tie.

Two more former Musketeers, Yhana Van Wees and Kat Kane, will be in action even earlier today for Cumbernauld’s Lady Rocks who are away to Glasgow Fever at Douglas Academy at 10.15am.

“Both players have settled in well for the Rocks,” said their former coach Donnie MacDonald, who is now an assistant coach with the Women’s BBL side Caledonia Pride.

Pride have a two-week fixture gap which MacDonald hopes will allow another of his former Tayside team, Hannah Robb, to regain full fitness.
