Dens striker rues missed chance

Kallman remains upbeat despite sixth game without a victory

Benjamin Kallman insists Dundee deserved to win Saturday’s Premiership basement battle with St Mirren at Dens.

The Dark Blues bounced back quickly after going behind in the first half to a soft penalty they felt should never have been given by referee Bobby Madden.

Kallman provided the assist at the equaliser with strike partner Kenny Miller scoring his first goal for the club.

The Finnish Under-21 forward thought that counter would be the springboard to secure his team’s first win since the end of September but he was ultimately left lamenting the one that got away.

Kallman said: “I think we should have taken three points.

“With the chances we had and the stupid goal we conceded we are obviously disappointed. “But there are some positives in how we played. “I thought we produced some very good football especially in the first half.

“We should have gone in at half-time with a lead and that would have helped.”

Saturday’s match was Dundee’s sixth without a victory but Kallman is confident the players will experience the winning feeling soon.

He added: “Definitely. It will come.”

Meanwhile, Kallman’s manager Jim McIntyre insisted that the referee got the call wrong when he decided to award a spot-kick after St Mirren’s Simeone Jackson went down under a Cammy Kerr challenge.

McIntyre said: “I have watched it back. It is not a penalty for me, definitely not a pen. But the referee gave it and the most important thing was my players’ response to it.

“It was very soft so that was disappointing but the reaction of the players was great because it would be easy to feel sorry for ourselves after that because we started the game well.”
