Wright anticipating tough game with in-form Killie

-

St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright is already eyeing up a mouth-watering home clash with Kilmarnock after the international break.

The Ayrshire club have taken giant strides under the guidance of boss Steve Clarke.

Killie are chasing another topsix finish and signed off with a 1-0 away win against a Hearts, who had topped the Premiership.

The Rugby Park side occupy fourth place but Wright knows in-form Saints will leapfrog them if they secure a top-flight record of six consecutive victories.

“It will be a great game to come back to after the break,” he said.

“Kilmarnock have done unbelievably well under Steve Clarke. They have a good team and they make it difficult for you.

“They don’t concede many goals and they have pace and carry a real threat going forward.

“Steve has them playing off a really good shape and he doesn’t overcomplicate things.

“That can be the best way to do things.

“We know it will be a tough game for us.

“But it will be a tough game for Kilmarnock as well because we have been in very good form.

“How we have been playing has also been impressive.

“And it’s not just about playing. I see the lads every day in training and levels have been rising.

“Crucially, they have been taking what they are doing on a daily basis into match days.

“That has to continue when we return to action.”
