Fife wicker art for Royal Mile

-

A wicker sculpture inspired by Fife youngsters will star in Edinburgh’s Hogmanay torchlight procession.

Young people have been invited to help choose a regional symbol at a workshop in Rosyth next Thursday.

The symbol to represent Fife will then be transformed into a giant sculpture by artist Ariel Killick which will go on display alongside 13 others from across Scotland on the Royal Mile from December 21 to 29 before becoming a focus of the parade on December 30.

At the creative workshop run by #ScotArt participants will be challenged to select the symbol which best represents their region and captures the collective burning heart of Scotland.

It will be led by Fife #ScotArt young champion Lara McDonald, young artist Mary Mayo and Killick.

Youngsters will also explore methods and materials used in wire and wicker sculptures and have the chance to create their own artwork to take home.

#ScotArt is an inclusive project aimed at young people aged eight to 26 as Scotland’s Year of Young People comes to a close.

The workshop in Camdean Community Centre runs from 6pm to 9pm. To sign up email bruce@underbelly.co.uk or visit scotart.edinburghshogmanay. com/get-involved

Those unable to attend the workshop can still nominate a symbol by visiting the same website.
