Butterfly the outstandin­g winner at Winter Fair

Filly foal, produced at Collessie, takes the supreme title

Clydesdale filly foal Lutteringt­on Butterfly yet again proved unstoppabl­e, taking the Winter Fair championsh­ip for her West Auckland-based owner, Harry Emerson.

This May-born daughter of Collessie New Approach, out of the Collessie Whinhill President-sired mare, Coachmills Lady Helen, stood overall champion at the Lanark, North of Fife foal and Lothian foal shows and had stood filly foal champion and reserve overall at Kilmarnock.

She was produced at Collessie, Cupar, by Ron and Pete Black.

It was Charlotte Young’s senior champion, the two-year-old colt Doura Magic Touch, which took the reserve overall championsh­ip.

This 2018 Cawdor Cup-winning colt, from Charlotte’s stud at Ayr, is by Glebeview Sir Charles, out of Ballinrees Lady Jane.

Reserve foal was Charlotte’s Doura Navigator, a full brother to Magic Touch. Navigator was also bred in Northern Ireland and stood reserve overall champion at Lanark and Fife and was reserve colt foal winner at Kilmarnock and at Lothian.

The reserve senior championsh­ip was taken by Scott Greenhill of Leuchars Lodge, Leuchars, with his home-bred six-year-old mare, Fordelhill Jubilee Ruby.

She is by Collessie Whinhill President, out of the Greendykes Benjie-sired Fordelhill Lady Margaret. Ruby was senior champion at Lanark and Lothian.

Champion Highland pony was Willie and Jean Ralston’s filly foal, Moss-Side Blaeberry, from Moss-Side, Methven.

This home-bred filly is a daughter of Moss-Side Domhnach, out of Moss-Side Osla.

John and Kate Dykes of Mendick Lea, West Linton, took the reserve honours with the colt Marksman of Mendick.

This two-year-old is by Strathmore Airlie, out of Gissings Luscardene. Marksman stood reserve champion at the 2017 National Stallion Show.

The Shetland Pony Championsh­ip went to Lisa Wilson’s mare, Birchmoor Delight. This four-year-old standard mare was bred in Yorkshire Birchmoor Viking.

Lisa also had the winning foal, a by the same stallion.

Shearer Pitcairn’s miniature stallion, Eiger Nijinsky, took the reserve overall title. Nijinsky has taken champion at eight of the nine shows he has competed at this year and he took a second place at the breed show on the other occasion.
