Man begs for Christmas reprieve from order so he can visit mother

-

A man who gave a false name to police before resisting arrest will be allowed to spend Christmas with his mother after he begged a court for mercy.

John Carr, of Station Road in Leven, appeared at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court yesterday for sentencing after previously admitting attempting to pervert the course of justice.

The 22-year-old also pled guilty to resisting arrest on June 27 by struggling with police at an address on Methil Brae in Methil, causing one officer to fall over.

Depute fiscal Rebecca Clark said: “Police witnesses were on duty and attended at the locus.

“The accused provided his details falsely.

“He was then informed that he was under arrest for attempting to pervert the course of justice.

“When officers attempted to put him in handcuffs, he immediately began to struggle. As a result, a police officer fell on to a couch.”

He was eventually locked in a police van where he apologised and gave his correct details.

Carr asked the court to suspend a restriction of liberty order over the festive period so he could go to visit his mother in Rosyth.

Defence solicitor Kerr Sneddon said neither of the pair could drive and Carr would be relying on public transport to travel to and from his mother’s home.

He added that his client had been recovering from a broken collarbone at the time of the incident and had been attempting to tell the arresting officers.

Sheriff Jamie Gilchrist QC placed Carr on the order for a period of two months, suspended between December 24 and 26.
