Free agent Dixon returns to United – but not for good

-

Paul Dixon is back training with Dundee United but Robbie Neilson isn’t lining up a return to the tangerine and black for the popular defender.

The 32-year-old is a free agent after his contract with Grimsby Town was cancelled.

Former Tannadice boss Ray McKinnon has confirmed his interest in linking up with Dixon at Falkirk but Neilson won’t be making him an offer.

“Paul is here to train,” he said. “I’ve known him since I was here as a player. He left Grimsby a couple of weeks ago and his family stay up here.

“He knows Scott Robertson really well and he’s asked to use the facilities and train with the young ones.

“I’m happy to help him out as much as I can until he gets something sorted.

“We’ve got Booth and Robson in his position so it’s no more than that.

“He’s a good character to have around the young boys. It’s great for the kids to have someone of his standard involved.”

l East Fife manager Darren Young is keen to tie down Hearts striker Rory Currie on loan for the second half of the season.

Currie has been with the Fifers since August and scored five goals in five consecutive games during his 14 appearances.

Young said: “He has done well for us. He is enjoying it here and hopefully we can get something done.”

l Montrose manager Stewart Petrie is hoping to have defender Matty Allan back in action before the end of the year.

The 22-year-old was last involved in Petrie’s first team on November 17 after a problem with his knee resurfaced and the Links Park boss will take his time with Allan before involving him again.

Petrie said: “It would be great to have Matty involved before the end of the year.

“However, if he is not 100% right, he will not play.

“He still has some inflammation around his knee and after the same problem earlier in this season I want it fully cleared up.

“He is a resolute character who will play with strappings on, but I want him not to have to do that.”
