Future of villages to be planned by local residents and designers

-

A second event to help shape Falkland and Newton of Falkland will be held.

The village’s community council will hold a co-design studio on Wednesday as part of the Making Falkland and Newton’ Future community links programme.

There will be an opportunity to join the design team discuss the developing proposals for both villages.

These include improving walking and cycling routes and looking at the key streets and green spaces.

There has already been a launch event and a first design studio day where certain issues kept recurring.

They included parked vehicles blocking pavements, motorists speeding in the area and visibility problems at certain junctions.

Locals also highlighted difficulties in accessing bus stops and moving around the villages using mobility scooters.

The issues are being addressed in the project, which was enabled by the community council securing funding from the Scottish Government through Sustrans Scotland to encourage residents and businesses to share ideas for making getting around easier.

The community council appointed a team of experts to work with the community to prepare plans for both villages.

Wednesday’s sessions are in Falkland Community Hall from 12pm to 8.30pm and Newton of Falkland Village Hall from 4.30 to 6.30pm.

In Falkland the project will focus on green spaces, edge of village park and village streetscapes and in Newton of Falkland there will be discussion on Newton meadow, the village hall green space and Main Street.
