Women, police and nurse victims in two days of violence by man

A Fife man who threatened to kill police and attack a nurse during two days of violent disorder has been jailed.

Darren Taylor committed a string of offences, including repeatedly punching a woman, brandishin­g knives at her and threatenin­g to throw boiling water with sugar in it over her.

At Dunfermlin­e Sheriff Court, Taylor, 21, was sentenced to 22 months in prison by Sheriff Charles Macnair. He was also given an 11-month supervised release order.

Taylor had previously admitted offences which took place at various locations, including Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, on August 31 and September 1.

He shouted, swore and brandished a knife towards Wendy Herd and armed himself with two knives at his home in Craigmyle Street, Dunfermlin­e.

Ms Herd was injured when he threw a plate at a wall, causing it to shatter.

The next day at Carnock Road, Dunfermlin­e, he shouted and threw a glass at a wall causing it to smash and injure his hand.

He smeared blood over his face and clothes and threatened violence towards Alana Robertson and Bryan McDowall.

He assaulted Ms Robertson, repeatedly punching her on the face, and brandished two knives at her.

Taylor also switched on a kettle and threatened to throw boiling sugar water over her.

At the hospital and in Fernie Place, Dunfermlin­e, that day he repeatedly threatened violence to police and threatened to find them on social media and kill them.

He also threatened to harm medical staff.
