Greener Kirkcaldy gets top prize at Climate Challenge awards

-

A community group which is taking action to tackle climate change across Fife has been honoured at a national conference.

Greener Kirkcaldy picked up the outstanding contribution gong at last night’s Scottish Climate Challenge Fund Awards (CCF) in Perth.

The organisation has run nine CCF projects, which have encouraged locals to reduce carbon emissions in the areas of energy, food, waste and transport.

In addition to raising awareness of climate change, the schemes have helped members of the community to improve carbon literacy and build skills, experience and confidence.

Judges said the Greener Kirkcaldy team had developed its capacity to take action on climate change as an organisation, in the local community and Fife-wide.

The CCF is a Scottish Government grants programme, managed and administered by Keep Scotland Beautiful.

It provides funding and support for community groups to tackle climate change through projects that reduce carbon emissions.

The awards ceremony was part of a two-day conference at Perth Concert Hall.

Tom Brook OBE, charity trustee at Keep Scotland Beautiful, said: “We are proud to present these awards and recognise everyone’s outstanding efforts.

“The awards provide the opportunity to showcase and celebrate the excellent work that has been carried out in the vital fight against climate change by communities across Scotland, supported by the fund.”
