Higgins pockets £20,000 thanks to Glasgow 147

SNOOKER: Maximum break at Scottish

- ROSS ALEXANDER

John Higgins recorded a maximum 147 break during his second round match against Gerard Greene at the Scottish Open in Glasgow yesterday.

The home favourite was 2-0 up in the best-of-seven contest at the Emirates Arena when he registered his ninth career maximum to move within one frame of victory.

It was not without a scare, as the 15th black rattled both jaws in the corner pocket before eventually dropping in, but the 43-year-old kept his composure to clean up the colours and claim the £20,000 rolling prize for his efforts.

Higgins kept his composure to seal the final frame to complete a 4-0 white wash of Greene and book his place in the third round.

He will be joined there by 2006 world champion Graeme Dott, who beat Perth cueman Scott Donaldson 4-1 in an all-Scottish contest. Luca Brecel knocked out home favourite Alan McManus, the Belgian winning through 4-2, while Dominic Dale lost out in a final-frame battle with Zhao Xintong.

There was a shock, however, as defending champion Neil Robertson crashed out with a 4-2 defeat to home favourite Ross Muir.

Muir, the world No 94, won the final three frames including hitting a break of 98 in seeing off the 2010 world champion.

There were no problems for world No 7 Ding Junhui as he strolled into the third round with a 4-1 win over Robert Milkins.

Joe Perry beat Robbie Williams 4-2. while former world championship finalist and 1996 British Open winner Nigel Bond defeated Welshman Michael White 4-1,

There were also wins for two-time world championship runner-up Ali Carter, David Lilley, Stuart Carrington, Sam Baird, Zhou Yuelong and Lu Ning.
