Siegrist has chance of facing ICT

- IAN ROACHE

Dundee United goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist is expected to be fit for the trip to Inverness on Saturday.

The Swiss shot-stopper – signed by former boss Csaba Laszlo in June – suffered a muscle spasm in his side that forced him off early in the Tangerines’ heavy loss to Ayr United just under a fortnight ago.

He was replaced by Matej Rakovan for the draw at Morton last weekend but is making good progress.

Manager Robbie Neilson believes the 26-year-old has a fighting chance of facing ICT in the Highlands on Saturday.

The United boss said: “He has done a little bit of training on the pitch and will join in with the goalies for more training.

“We will look at him over the rest of the week then make a decision on him.

“I would expect him to be back, to be honest with you.”

Meanwhile, United striker Pavol Safranko insisted that the players are well aware that they have let their standards drop of late.

“We can do better,” he said. “And we have to do better.

“We always look to ourselves and our performance must be better.

“We still have all this quality and power in our team to go up but we just have to take a long, hard look in the mirror now and work hard. We will be back. Morton tried and worked hard but we had the quality to be successful in the game.”

Safranko is convinced no lasting damage has been done in the previous two games.

He added: “It’s not a step back in our ambitions to win the league but we have to be very careful and be ready for every game.

“We can’t find any excuses going up to Inverness. We just have to go there and put in 100%.

“Everyone has to show their best and after that, hopefully we can win.

“I have enjoyed my time here, playing and scoring goals. But like the rest of the team I want to be better for every game.”
