QUEEN’S PARK 1 COWDENBEATH 1

Cowdenbeath’s on-loan Dundee striker Matty Henvey came off the bench to show his goal-scoring prowess as the Central Park men claimed a deserved point at Hampden Park.

The 19-year-old joined Gary Bollan’s side last month and hopes he will be grabbing the goals that could spark a promotion push from the Blue Brazil.

He said: “The boys have put in a great shift since I came in and I have been chapping on the door waiting for my chance.

“I have had a few substitute appearances but not really had the chance to show what I can do. It came today and I took it.

“The manager told me to go on and make an impact in the game. He said that I had it in my locker to do that.

“I score goals, that is my job and that is what I went on and did.

“I was through on goal and scoring seems to come naturally to me. Hopefully, it is the first of many.”

David Cox sent a header inches over after just 14 minutes and the Cowden striker came even closer on 55 minutes with another header that hit the bar twice before being cleared.

Henvey struck 11 minutes from the end when he accepted a pass from Kris Renton and slipped the ball through Jamie McKernon’s legs before finding the far corner with a low shot.

But, with a vital win within sight, Jamie Pyper felled David Galt in the box and Scott McLean cracked the last-minute penalty past Aaron Lennox to deny the on-loan Partick Thistle shot-stopper a clean sheet on his debut.

Henvey added: “I scored my first senior goal for Dundee last season against Hamilton in a game that we won 2-1.

“That felt great and it was also a great feeling to score my first goal for Cowdenbeath.

“Scoring at the national stadium is a bit special.

“I was ecstatic when the ball went into the net, but it was disappointing not to come away with the three points.”
