Midland turn tables to lift under-18 title

-

Midland under-18s topped the leaderboard at close of play at the Scottish Inter-District Championships in Perth on Sunday.

It was sweet revenge for last year when the title went West by a single goal.

This time it was the local side who prevailed, equal on points with the defending champions but turning the tables with a better goal difference.

Izzy Folan, Ellie Stott and Nicola McArthur ensured three points went on the board in the opener against South but it was East who edged the next contest with Katie Swanson firing in a double to Stott’s single.

The bragging rights were up for grabs as Midland, West and East were all in contention going into the final round but, with East only managing to scrape a 1-0 win over South, it was Midland who turned up the heat with a sparkling 3-0 victory over West.

Michaela McCarthy’s goal was sandwiched between opening and closing strikes from top-scorer Stott.

Final rankings: 1 Midland (6 points,+5), 2 West (6,+2), 3 East (6,+1), 4 South (0)

At Championship level Grove Menzieshill’s second string sent Waverley Inveresk Trinity back to the capital with a 5-1 loss. Recovery from a 1-0 deficit came in the final 20 minutes when five different players hit the net.

Kinross took a point in Championship II when they finished 2-2 with CALA II but results for Perthshire, St Andrews II and Dundee University II all went in the wrong direction.

Perthshire II prevailed over Blairgowrie in the first round of the KO Cup, Amy Robb, Charlotte Butler and Freya Livingstone doing the honours with Katy Alexander replying.

Midland League action returned with Madras strengthening their hold on the Division 1 title courtesy of a 5-2 win over Kinross II. Wendy Marshall and Wendy Symington were on target for the latter.

Wanderers II suffered a setback when St Andrews IIIs emerged with a 4-1 win.

Lizzy Baxter, Jordan McCracken and Ashleigh Forfar hit the net for Brechin Thistles, with Lindsay McGovern claiming one back for Grove IIIs.
