Family’s heartbreak at biker’s death

The family of a tragic Angus biker say they hope his senseless death will serve as a grim reminder to others to look out for other road users.

Graeme Bell from Carnoustie suffered fatal injuries after teenager Matthew Jamieson pulled out in front of him at a Barry bypass junction in November 2017.

Mr Bell’s family have now called for Jamieson, who also lives in the Angus town, to be jailed after he admitted causing the death of the 27-year-old by careless driving.

Dundee Sheriff Court heard Jamieson had doubled back to pick up a friend when he pulled into the path of motorcycle salesman Mr Bell.

Despite the immediate attention of a passing nurse and a firefighter Mr Bell – described as “one in a million” by family – died at the side of the road.

Jamieson will be sentenced next month.

Mr Bell’s family said: “Graeme was a loving son, brother, husband, grandson and family man.

“Every single day we are heartbroken at the loss of such an important, bright and irreplaceable member of our family.”

The statement went on: “We 100% believe the driver deserves to be jailed for what he did.

“He killed someone. He took a life.

“In the meantime, we hope what happened to Graeme serves as a tragic reminder about the need to simply be decent people and consider the needs of other road users.”
