Hogg review but the Six Nations over for Jones
Bradbury makes timely return for Edinburgh as they host Dragons in Pro14
Scotland centre Huw Jones has been ruled out for the rest of the Guinness Six Nations due to the knee injury sustained against Ireland last weekend.
Jones, 25, started Scotland’s first two matches at outside centre, in the opening 33-20 win against Italy and last Saturday’s 22-13 defeat by the Irish.
“Scotland centre Huw Jones is unlikely to play any further part in the 2019 Guinness Six Nations,” Scottish Rugby said in a statement.
“The Glasgow Warriors midfielder sustained knee ligament damage in the national team’s round two defeat to Ireland at BT Murrayfield Stadium on Saturday, with scan results suggesting the injury recovery time would likely be beyond the reaches of the current campaign.”
Scottish Rugby said Jones had returned to Glasgow Warriors for treatment, while team-mate Stuart Hogg’s shoulder injury was still being assessed.
“Full-back Stuart Hogg damaged shoulder ligaments early in the firsthalf of the same game and is now under the joint care of the Glasgow Warriors and Scotland medical teams, with his rehabilitation progress and review ongoing,” Scottish Rugby added.
Meanwhile, Scotland back-row Magnus Bradbury will make a timely return to action when Edinburgh host Dragons at Murrayfield tonight.
The former Edinburgh skipper will make his first appearance since dislocating a shoulder four months ago.
The 23-year-old makes his comeback after Scotland’s back-row injury crisis intensified when Ryan Wilson was ruled out for the remainder of the Six Nations with a knee injury.
Glasgow flanker Matt Smith was ruled out for the season days earlier after withdrawing from the Scotland squad with a shoulder injury.
Scotland coach Gregor Townsend is also missing Hamish Watson, John Barclay and David Denton from his back row while Blade Thomson, Bradbury, Cornell Du Preez and Luke Hamilton were also injured before the Six Nations.
John Hardie and Sam Skinner were both unavailable for Scotland’s defeat by Ireland after picking up knocks.
Scotland internationals Darcy Graham, Chris Dean, Ben Toolis and Luke Crosbie have all been released from the Six Nations squad to play in the Guinness PRO14 encounter.
Edinburgh’s top try-scorer Duhan Van Der Merwe also returns to action.
