Dramatic news comes from Germany’s eastern frontier. German forces have opened a big offensive in Posen against the Poles. By means of poison gas, intense bombardements and numerically superior forces, they overwhelmed the Poles and captured two towns. The delegates at the Peace Congress were greatly moved when the news of the renewal of war of such a scale reached them during the afternoon sitting. They decided to take immediate action and instructions were wired to Marshal Foch at Treves.

Cleo, the Indian hunting falcon which deserted her young Perth owner a fortnight ago, is back home, a little leaner, but otherwise in excellent condition. She turned up exhausted and hungry in the garden of 172 Dundee Street, Carnoustie. Mr Stewart Ogilvie found the bird almost on his back doorstep when he went to investigate his dog’s barking. Sixteen-year-old Peter Millers, Fairies Road, Perth, who has been training Cleo for the past five months, said that once caught, she seemed quite happy to be back in captivity.

Around 1,000 new homes could be built in St Andrews after a masterplan for the town was submitted to planning authorities. The proposal for a major mixed-use development to the west of the town will help the settlement flourish as an international centre of academic and cultural excellence, according to developers. The St Andrews West LLP, a partnership comprising St Andrews University, Headon Holdings and other local landowners, has formally submitted its application. Along with new homes, the blueprint also comprises university uses, a business park and shops.
