Scots seal win in Oman

-

Scotland finisher Craig Wallace heaped praise on skipper Kyle Coetzer and George Munsey after their batting heroics paved the way for victory over Ireland in Oman yesterday.

The pair produced the country’s highest-ever opening stand in a T20 international as the Scots chased a daunting 180 to clinch a moraleboosting win in the Quadrangular Series.

Munsey and Coetzer plundered 109 runs in just 8.4 overs to spearhead Scotland’s best runchase in the short format.

Following a mid-innings wobble, Wallace (19no) and Calum MacLeod (35no) steered the team to victory.

Wallace declared: “George and Kyle were absolutely outstanding – it’s pretty scary how well they batted and they gave us a great platform and Calum and I saw us over the line.

“It’s a nice feeling to come in with the game in the balance and show what I can do.”

Wallace also paid tribute to the bowlers who at one stage had looked likely to concede a total in excess of 200 after Irish openers Kevin O’Brien and Paul Stirling eclipsed even Coetzer and Munsey with a stand of 115.

However, three wickets from Mark Watt stalled Ireland and Wallace added: “The bowlers held their nerve brilliantly because we were definitely under the cosh.

“Watty got some key wickets and the rest of the guys did really well towards the middle and end.

“It’s just a brilliant feeling to get the win.”
