Scoonie Brae to be closed to allow for resurfacing works

-

A section of the Fife Coastal Tourist Route will be closed to motorists during roadworks.

Scoonie Brae in Leven will be closed on Saturday and Sunday during the weekends, starting March 2 and March 9, while the carriageway is resurfaced. Diversion signs will be in place.

The works on Scoonie Brae and Largo Road will start next Monday, February 25, with temporary traffic lights and a convoy system in place for the initial phase prior to the closure.

Temporary traffic signals will be manually controlled by marshals from 7.30am-7pm.

Fife Council said it was spending £165,000 on the road network in Leven.

Labour councillor Altany Craik, convener of economy, tourism, strategic planning and the transportation committee, said: “Our road network is vital to support economic development, inward investment, tourism, leisure and travel to work.

“Almost everyone in Fife uses our roads on a daily basis, which is why this type of maintenance work is so essential.”

Electronic advance warning signs will be put up before the works start to advise motorists who use the route.

There will be access for emergency services. However, access for residents and businesses will be at the discretion of the contractor.

Bus services will be diverted while Scoonie Brae is closed. Contact Stagecoach for details.

Mr Craik added: “We apologise for any inconvenience and delay caused by these essential works, and we will try to keep any disturbance to a minimum.

“Your patience and co-operation during this time is greatly appreciated.”
