Christie saves spot-kick to help Kelty close gap at top

Kelty Hearts closed the gap to BSC Glasgow in second place to just a point with a game in hand after a 1-0 win away from home at Gala Fairydean Rovers.

The Fife side had to thank goalkeeper Scott Christie for the second week running as he saved a penalty.

Kelty took the lead themselves from the penalty spot on 35 minutes, Stephen Husband converting the kick, awarded after Ross Mutch had been impeded.

Christie’s vital save came midway through the second half, helping Barry Ferguson’s men to secure all three points.

Central Taxis East of Scotland League Conference A

Hill of Beath remain five points behind leaders Penicuik Athletic, but with a game in hand, after the two sides drew 1-1 at Penicuik Park.

Sam Jones gave the home side the lead, but the game started to swing in the favour of Kevin Fotheringh­am’s side when Penicuik had Craig Stevenson sent off. Jake Mitchell levelled on 50 minutes.

Oakley United went down 3-1 at Leith Athletic.

Conference B Burntislan­d Shipyard took a valuable three points from their clash with Dunipace at Recreation Park.

Rab Kinnaird put Shippy in front after just 60 seconds and Andy Watt doubled the advantage before Dunipace pulled one back before half-time. The visitors levelled early in the second half but Burntislan­d hit the winner in stoppage-time through Jonny Galloway.

Bonnyrigg Rose maintained their unbeaten run with a 3-0 win at Crossgates.

Dundonald Bluebell scored first at Dalkeith but then had to equalise twice, the second coming in stoppage-time as they sealed a point. Callum Smith (2) and Smith Archie Campbell grabbed the goals.

Conference C

Jeanfield Swifts’ unbeaten run in Conference C is at an end after they lost 3-2 in a pulsating clash at Broxburn Athletic. Rhys Davies scored both Swifts goals.

Inverkeith­ing Hillfield Swifts were well beaten 5-1 by Camelon at Ballast Park. Ryan Skinner hit Swifts’ consolatio­n.

Two headed goals in the second half saw St Andrews United home against Edinburgh United at Barnetts Park. They came from Jack Wilson on 69 minutes and Daryl Falconer with five minutes remaining.
