Community projects bid for cash

-

Voting has begun on bids by local projects keen to improve parts of Buckhaven and Methil.

Some 43 projects by local groups are competing for a share of £63,500 to be split equally between the two towns.

The funds were raised by environmental charity Clear, from the Scottish Government’s Community Choices scheme.

The projects bidding for cash are Autism Rocks, Buckhaven and Denbeath Community Council, Buckhaven Bats’ Wood, Buckhynd Pottery, Clear Buckhaven, Community Trade Hub, Enigma Gymnastics, Friends of the Bird Scheme and Kingdom Off Road Motorcycle Club, who are all requesting between £2,500 and £5,000, while a number of smaller projects are also bidding for up to £999.

Voting for the Buckhaven projects will run until February 25 and ballot boxes have been placed in the community centre, the library, Levenmouth Academy and some local shops.

The following week, Methil residents will be asked to vote on schemes for their area.

As many people as possible have been asked to take part.

The exercise will conclude with two public events where groups will present their projects before a final round of voting.

They will take place in Buckhaven Community Centre on Saturday March 2 from 11am to 2pm and Wellesley Parish Church, Methil, on Saturday March 9, also from 11am to 2pm.
