Dee star man Wright sets his sights on being an even better player.

DENS: Dark Blues boss says on-loan Wright ‘deserves all the plaudits’ as he aims for top

A real desire to improve himself as a player is what is spurring on Scott Wright to star for Dundee.

Wright has been a stand-out performer up front for the Dark Blues since joining on loan from Aberdeen in the January transfer window, with some observers comparing him favourably with Scott Allan in both style and ability.

His superb set-piece goal was the difference between the sides when the Dens men beat Livingston 2-1 at the Tony Macaroni Arena on Saturday.

Dens boss Jim McIntyre has revealed that at the heart of Wright’s form has been a determination to be an even better player than he was when he arrived from Pittodrie.

McIntyre said: “Scott has undoubted talent and quality in his locker.

“There’s a lot of competition at Aberdeen but he could quite easily have stayed there and been part of the squad. There is nothing to say he wouldn’t have got a run in the team.

“Instead, he chose to come here to play games and we are delighted to have him.

“He is constantly wanting to get better and that will take him right to the top of the game.

“I keep in touch with (Dons boss) Derek McInnes and discuss how he is doing.

It is important when you loan a player from any club that you get feedback.

“Scott is a brilliant boy to work with and Derek said that. He is always staying behind to do extra, whether it’s in the gym or after training. He practises those free-kicks all the time.

“It’s repetition, repetition all the time with him and it’s refreshing to see a young player who has that desire to make himself better without having to be asked by the manager or the coach. “He deserves all the plaudits.” While that Livi success was hugely welcome, attention now turns to Friday’s home clash with Hibs.

McIntyre said: “That game has gone now and we’ve got Hibs on Friday night and it’s a matter of concentrating on that one. They have got a new manager (Paul Heckingbottom) and it is going to be a tough game.

“They got off to a good start under the new boss with that win over Hamilton and they’ve got good players.

“However, we are back at home in front of the TV cameras and want to put on a good performance.

“We know what players he (Heckingbottom) has to work with and we know their strengths and weaknesses like we do most of the other squads in the league.

It’s about making sure yours are better than theirs on the night.”
