Social security agency job boost

Scotland’s new social security agency is to create 100 jobs at its base in Glasgow as part of its first major round of recruitment in the city.

Social Security Scotland, set up to deliver seven newlydevolved benefits, will hire staff to work as client advisers, as well as in team leader and management posts.

The number of employees for the agency is expected to be in excess of 1,900 once fully operational, with a head office also based in Dundee.

Social Security Secretary Shirley-Anne Somerville said: “Social Security Scotland is founded on the principles of dignity, fairness and respect, and our people are absolutely key in delivering that.

“As we build on our presence in Glasgow, our second major site, we are looking for people with positive attitudes, who share our ambition to deliver a public service that people in Scotland can be proud of.

“We have already made good progress in getting people from a range of backgrounds in posts and want to build on this.

“Social Security Scotland will work with a range of partners to proactively promote these posts.

“We want to remove barriers to employment – so have taken steps like changing entry requirements to make these posts as accessible to as many people as possible.”

Ms Somerville added: “Having Glasgow as Social Security Scotland’s second major base will be a significant economic boost for the city as more recruitment drives will follow.
