Organisers promise bigger and better Kinross Show
Host of attractions added next Saturday
Stronger links between the local community and organisers of Kinross Show will add a host of attractions to this year’s event, which takes place next Saturday.
Since the record attendance of last year’s show, the committee, led by incoming president Andrew Turnbull, has received offers of support and new ideas to complement the strong livestock and horse entries that remain the backbone of the event.
Teaming up with Kinross Local Events Organisation (Kleo) will see the popular Kinross-shire Farmers’ Market set up in the heart of the showground for the first time.
Bouwein Bennet from Kleo said: “Visitors will be able to enjoy some artisan produce from the 17 traders offering everything from small-batch spirits and wines to local pork and veal.”
Coming to the main ring is a festival of local talent that includes the children’s fancy dress competition, the grand parade of livestock, a bale wrapping demonstration and vintage tractor display.
Gordon Douglas of Second to None Dog Walking and Training will showcase the skill of working dogs in the countryside.
“I’ll demonstrate that if you own a working breed of dog, this type of training is fun, whilst providing both mental and physical stimulation for the dog,” he said.
Labradors Grace, Brooke, Suri, River and Snow are the stars of his show who demonstrate retrieves, changes in directions and stops. The obedience and focus of the pack is what promises to make the show a highlight for the main ring 2019.
When show secretary Jane Drysdale was alerted that a pipe band from Tasmania was on tour in Scotland and in the area on show day she wasted no time in securing a spot in the main ring programme for the pipers from down under.
The tour includes performances across Scotland from Portree to the Kelpies and the World Pipe Band Championships.
Pipe Major John Ralph said: “Collaboration is at the heart of this trip and we are fortunate to be performing at some iconic venues, playing at Kinross Show on the banks of Loch Leven just tops it off. ”
Ms Drysdale said the community involvement is increasing, due to the committee’s ambition to make the event a great day out for both farmers and non-farmers.
“The entertainment stage launched last year and is returning with a full line-up and runs all day next to the food and drink area,” she said.
“The scarecrow competition and children’s food and farming tent are popular with youngsters, and coming to the show is easy if you jump on the free bus from Kinross and surrounding areas. We look forward to welcoming you.”
