Nine-man Bluebells get back on track

-

Lochee United got back to winning ways with a narrow North Super League win over Downfield at Thomson Park last night.

The Bluebells were two up at the break courtesy of a Dougie Cameron penalty and a Danny Cavanagh strike.

Lee Cameron pulled one back for the Spiders from a penalty after the break and, despite the hosts being reduced to nine men with Kevin Milne and Scott McComskie sent off, they held on. The visitors also finished without a full compliment as Dale Davidson was red-carded.

Carnoustie obviously took to Whitton Park’s new surface as the Gowfers were 3-1 winners over hosts Broughty.

Stehen McPhee had the honour of scoring the first goal to give the Gowfers the lead, but Broughty hit back through Ryan Ferguson.

Brian Clark restored the visitors’ lead and Ryan Dignan with the third removed any doubt over the outcome.

Luncarty, shock winners over Lochee United at the weekend, were themselves on the end of a surprise defeat, going down 2-1 at Scone.

Tayport slipped to a 2-1 defeat at home to Kirrie Thistle.

Goalless at half-time, Stewart Russell gave the visitors the lead but Dayle Robertson replied within a minute when he converted a spot-kick.

However, Ryan Winter notched Thistle’s winner.

Scott Drumm’s first half goal proved to be the only goal of the game and earned North End three points at home to Forfar West End.

In the evening’s top match in the North Premier Division, East Craigie had to rely on a last-minute penalty to earn a deserved point against hosts Blairgowrie.

Home keeper Gordon O’Brien was Blair’s hero with a string of great saves and that enabled the Berrrypickers to go in front after 58 minutes through Darren Neave.

Ross McNaughton levelled within a couple of minutes, but the Shipbuilders fell behind to a Matty Adam goal after 75 minutes.

Justice was done, though, when George Johnston netted a penalty in the last minute.

In the battle of the Vics, Brechin emerged emphatic victors cruising to a 5-1 win over Arbroath at Nursery Road to make it two wins out of two.

The home side scored twice in the first half through Euan Duff and Cameron Fraser.

Duncan Martin and Jason Alexander were on target in the second half before Craig Tosh pulled one back for the visitors.

Fraser then scored his second of the night to complete the scoring.

On Saturday, Forfar Albion boss Stephen Stewart bemoaned his side’s lack of a cutting edge and it was the same story last night as they lost to visitors Violet.

Cameron Ross scored the only goal of the game on the half-hour mark.

With two back after being so depleted last Saturday, Harp got their first three points of the season with a 3-0 home win over Coupar Angus.

Jay Smart gave the hosts an interval lead with Nathan Degernier and Ryan Hunt on target after the break.
